  1. From my perspective, I think that the subject of Visual Arts should be cut.

First of all Visual Arts is not too useful nowadays. In many fields of career, VA can only be applied to a minority of them, such as designing, drawing. These occupations are less popular and provide people with less income than majority jobs such as doctors, teachers, atheletes, officials, etc.

I think that a subject about wild survival is important. Different from other subjects, I think that this subject is mainly about the skills of students.

Now, more and more teenagers like to go camping or explore the wildlife, but besides not preparing eough for their trip, they also lack the knowledge of wild survival and self-protection. Such survival skills that are very useful are not taught at school nowadays. Therefore, sometimes when teenagers encounter danger in the wild, they won’t be able to overcome the treats. For instance, when they are chased by bears, they probably wouldn’t know that they cannot escape from a bear, and they have to roar at them to make them afraid and run away. Teaching survival skills to students can make them learn about how to protect themselves form wildlife threats, and the importance of preparation before trips.

  2. I would like to cut the VA lesson. In form 3,there are many subjects we need to study.Especially Biology,History … We don’t even have enough time to study ,so how come we have time to draw each week or in two weeks? In my opinion ,learning VA is just a waste of time because there are just a few ways to find a job that about VA in the future. We have chatgpt now and it can make lots of beautiful realistic drawings. If cutting VA lesson is impossible ,i prefer shorter the VA lessons, maybe change from two lessons to one lesson.

But I would like to add aCL lessons. We can play and learn in CL lessons by using the computer. We can learn more about AI .Everyone likes playing computer games or using computers ,isn’t it?

  3. I think we should cut visual arts and add two more lessons of PE each cycle. It is because visual arts is kind of useless, like no one wants to be a artist when they grow up, thus we can just learn arts outside school if we want to instead of wasting lesson timeto draw useless stuff. Nowadays obesity has become more common, especally students. A lot of students don’t like to exercise and like to play video games instead of going to the park to play basketball like in the old times. Adding PE lessons can force them to move more and to encourage them to exercise, which benifits their health and let them to have more energy for upcoming lessons at school.

  4. I think history should be cut because this subject is teaching about the past of other countries which is not related to our life. Most of us are not going to be a historian when we grow up, so history is not useful for our future.
The subject should be add in senior form is economic which means that Life and Society should be separated into two subjects which is life, and the other is economic. It is because Life and Society is included life and economic, therefore, we need to study a lot in Life and Society. If it is separated, senior forms students can mainly study life or economic separately.

    • I don’t agree with you. I think that History is an important subject that should be kept.

In my opinion, learning about the past of countries and civilizations is actually quite useful. Through knowing some of the greatest failures in history, we can realize the mistakes of the ancient people, and try to correct them and better ourselves, to prevent history from repeating itself again. Also, through some issues such as the Opium Wars during the Qing Empire of China, we can learn about the effects of opium on both people’s health and the country’s politics and economy.

  5. I think that the school should drop VA lesson for F1 to F3, because its not really that helpful for our future life. Here is why.
To begin with, VA is not really used in that many aspects. in fact, there are only 14 careers that is required to know, and be good at drawing. For examples, designer. you might think that designers is quite an world-wide job. But let me ask you a question, is there any famous designer that you know? you cant really answer it without searching in google right? Instead, do you know anyone that is very famous signer in HK? Alot right? Thats why i think learning visual art is not really used in different aspects.
In addition, not everyone like visual art anyways. I don’t think that forcing junior form students to do something they don’t like at all is good for them. Instead, its harmful to them! For example, you don’t like to do sports, but the school forced you to do so, you will do it ofcourse but you will hate it afterwards.
Futhermore, we should swap visual arts lesson with music lessons, because music lesson are much more relaxing than visual arts, and atleast much less people hate music than visual arts.
In conclusion, the school should drop visual art lessons and add more music lessons.

    • I agree with you. VA is unnecessary to learn since it can’t be used in different careers. If someone is interested in VA, they can find the drawing skills in the internet easily. It no longer needs a teacher to teach in a lesson. Besides, VA is a methods of relaxing. We should draw the things we imagine instead of a topic given by the teacher. This distorts the purpose of learning VA.

However, I am not agree with adding music lessons. With the same point, music is not used in most of the careers. I think the school should add more PE lessons since students need a strong physique to study. Many of them may focus on studying overly so they have less time of doing sports. Some of them even think PE is not important. Let me ask you a question, if you are not healthy and always get sick, how do you focus on studying? Therefore, PE lesson can let students become healthy in order to have a strong physique to do everything they want.

In conclusion, I think the school should cut VA lessons and add more PE lessons.

    • Osten I partially agree with you. Not every student likes visual arts and drawing. Using myself as an example, my art skills are terrible! I just don’t know how my friends can draw amazing comics within five to ten minutes and call that a sketch! I sometimes question my own abilities, lowering my self-esteem and self-confidence. I feel stressed whenever we have VA lessons. On the other hand, I enjoy doing sports and is apart of the school swimming team. Doing sports gives me a sense of achievement and I am able to discover my identity. Music is a good option too. But the singing exams are conducted in front of the whole class, I feel severely stressed. I think the school policy should be reviewed. For myself, I purpose letting students choose two subjects out of PE, VA and music. This can ensure a well-rounded development as well as enhancing the students’ interest towards studying.

  6. I would like to cut Geography. We need to study 3 books this year about Geography and I don’t think it can help with my future life. For example, we need to study many map skills such as some symbols of maps. However, the purpose of those symbols are to provide convenience when we are reading the map. We are not supposed to recite all the map symbols when we are lost in a mountain.

Also, I would like to cut RS as not every student is Christian. I think it will increase students’ pressure as we need to have RS exam.

  7. There is a wide variety of subjects at school, most of them are useful for daily life. but some of them may be useless, or perhaps, it isn’t often used in our daily lives. In my opinion, the subject I would like to drop is Visual Arts. You may be thinking that Visual Arts can sharpen our drawing skills and creativity, yes, I do agree with you. However, the artworks we are assigned to do may be stressful. Creating artwork may be time-consuming. Also, some students try hard to do their artwork but fail to get a satisfactory result, which may discourage them. Next, I think that drawing should be a hobby, but not a lesson. Some people like me may be uninterested in arts and may think that Visual Arts lesson is meaningless and boring. I think that drawing can be done in their leisure time and it can also be learned through the internet. That’s why I think that the Visual Arts lesson should be dropped. Lastly, I think that there are plenty of other more important subjects than Visual Arts, such as Chinese, English, and Mathematics. I think that the school should give us more lessons on these important subjects instead of Visual Arts.

  8. Also, some students try hard to do their artwork but fail to get a satisfactory result which may discourage the students. Next, I think that drawing should be a hobby, but not a lesson. Some people like me may be uninterested in arts and may think that Visual Arts lesson is meaningless and boring. I think that drawing can be done in their leisure time. That’s why I think that Visual Arts lesson should be dropped.

  9. If I can cut a subject at school, I will definitely choose Visual Arts. Although we can relax and have more arts skills to learn during the lesson, it’s a bit meaningless to me. Also, we won’t draw and use arts skills probably when we grow up so I think schools should not pressure students to learn visual arts. If we can add a reading lesson to replace visual arts’ lessons, I think it will be more reasonable. Since students can pass the time to read something they love instead of drawing. Not most of us love arts and if we can use the time to do something that we want or we are interested in, it’ll be better.

  10. I think our school should cancel the Geography lesson.

Let’s talk about Geography first. Somebody will think Geography is fun and easy to catch the main points. However, I don’t think so. This year we need to study three textbooks! Yes, three books and a lot of map skills:) What a ‘stunning subject’! But don’t forget that we also have ten more subjects to go in this year! Besides, the exam syllabus of the Geography final exam will cover nearly all three textbooks. I am exhausted.

I don’t know why we need to study the Geography-lessons are boring, teachers are also very bored. Textbooks are full of words and I feel worst. Many things taught in Geography were all about what we NEED to become and most of the solutions were not applicable in modern society.

It’s difficult for me to learn well in this subject. Argh!

  11. There are so many subjects at our school. But I don’t think all of them are useful for us to learn, such as Visual Art and Design & Technology. If I had the chance to drop the subjects at our school, I would like to drop these two subjects. Since I am not good at drawing, I felt stressful to those subjects. Even I use more than two hours to do those works, I still cannot be satisfied with them. This makes me feel so depressed, especially when teacher show our work to all of my classmates. I feel the big contrast within my classmates and me. Also, the topic of the works is not my interest, such as Roman Art. I don’t know about it so I don’t know how to do the work. In this case, I will search in Google. In this process, I find that I will be copy the image I have seen on internet instead of thinking of some creating ideas. And this makes me feel that those subjects cannot train my creativity. Overall, I think those subjects are not useful to me.
Although I think those subjects need to be dropped, I still respect some classmates who like VA and D&T so much. I suggest the school can give us choose whether we learn these subject or not.

  12. In my opinion, we should cut Design and Technology(D&T). Because the artwork of Visual Arts lessons are more or less same with D&T lesson. In VA lessons, we can learn about different forms, history and meaning of arts, also can make some artworks. However, in D&T lessons, we are only learn how to design and create some work. Hence, I think D&T can be cut. I would suggest to add English Literature for a new subject. I found out students are lack of chances to know more about english literature, which only by learning some Shakespeare’s plays in the English lessons. Once adding English Literature as a subject, students in the English Literature lessons can understand and know more about some poetries, novels, short stories and plays in the past and recent generations, such as The Great Gatsby which written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Thus, students will improve their English and also raise their interests in English.

  13. There are many subjects in our school. For the subject I want to remove from the curriculum, I will choose VA and RS. As my drawing skills are so terrible. I always feel stressed and not willing to do the VA homework. I find it so difficult to finish as I need to spend a lot of time drawing. So I hate this subject, I think that learning this subject is wasting my time. The skills I learnt from VA lessons are not useful. Doing the VA homework makes me have less time to do my other homework and revisions. And the VA lessons are so boring that I can’t focus on what she is saying. But I know some students love this subject very much so I think changing the subject to elective (from F.1 to F.6) is a better solution.

For RS, I also find this subject very boring and useless. I know this is a Christian school but for those students who do not believe in God will find this subject very rubbish. Different from VA, Religious Study has examinations and will affect our academic result. Studying this subject is already boring, and now we need to revise it to get high marks in the exams. I hate it and I hope the subject can be removed. (probably can’t)

    • I totally agree with you about removing Visual Arts into the elective subject because as you mentioned, doing artwork could be very troublesome to those students who are not talent in Visual Arts. Some students may found stressful when doing VA assignments instead of so-called ‘relax’. However, for your other subject that you wanted to be removed, I disagree about that. Since Lam Woo is an Anglican secondary school, Religious Studies is necessary for the school to promote the faith of God and his righteousness. Even you mentioned that it is boring and will affect the academic result. The use of setting RS for examinations is to help students to know more about God and learn from his ways. I think, in my opinion, if you do your revision on RS, it won’t cause too much effect on the overall academic results.

  14. After we start studying in secondary schools, we may be shocked by the numerous subjects that we have to learn specifically, unlike General Studies in primary school where you can get a brief understanding of both History and Science. If you think that the curriculum is very complicated this year, when you are totally wrong! Imagine studying Commerce and Integrated Science being splitted next year, it will be a nightmare more horrible than before! At this time, some of the students may dream of dropping a subject. In my opinion, I will choose not to study Visual Arts (we’ll use the abbreviation “VA” later in the article!) and there are two factors behind.
First of all, it may spoil the time of the untalented students, especially those who are interested in paying as much time and effort to dig into it. In fact, although some of the subjects such as Music, VA and Design and Technology are not as important as the main subjects and they don’t share a proportion for calculating the average marks and form position, we still have to do all of the homework with a serious attitude. Sometimes, as I am not an artist compared to the others who can apply gradients and shades into their products flexibly, I may waste a lot of time worrying about the lethal mistakes that I might make in the process such as accidentally cutting the special papers which are provided by my VA teacher in a wrong way. Therefore, I, along with most of the students, fail to prepare for those exam-required subjects properly.
Secondly, why I particularly choose VA is that the principles of beauty in everyone’s eyes are more or less different. For example, Aristotle thought that the more realistic an object was illustrated in a picture, the more beautiful it was. Meanwhile, his student Plato thought that any well-proportioned object was beautiful. Obviously, they may be controversial considering different situations. UFO is one of the prime examples that can be drawn with a great proportion but it’s not real in the times where these two well-known artists existed. When I was studying in primary school, I was struggling with not getting a fail in VA which would slander my record card that I haven’t got a mark higher than seventy-five. Although I don’t pay attention to the VA lesson as usual, my results suddenly rose last year that I got an unbelievable score of ninety-five! All of the above show that the point of view towards the definition of beauty is subjective.
Overall, I think that VA “lessons” are unnecessary for the students’ personal growth, it may also increase the stress of them and reduce their will to learn new things. But, it doesn’t mean that the school has to compromise the potential for those artists. An Arts Department can be formed and it can be used to organize various elective workshops, which cover a wide variety of art culture in different countries and are free of charge. Hence, I don’t think that it’s beneficial to students to add any other subjects into their timetable as the cons of wasting the time for those uninterested and the rise of stress will reappear again. Instead, we should promote interdisciplinary education and fuse the element of VA into the design work of the main subjects (such as English) in order to replace the traditional assignments (i.e. following the foreign education system) so that the students will become happier.

  15. There are several subjects in our school. However, not all the subjects are useful and interesting. I think we should drop VA lessons. Although some students may think that this subject is useful, it can develop students’ creativity and imagination. Students can draw the picture they like and they may feel relaxed . But when I am doing the artwork, I feel stressed as the requirement is high. Even though I spent two hours, I still can’t get what the drawing should be. I even heard that a student spent three hours to finish the artwork and he still got the dictation on the next day. The VA assignment was a totally disruption to the student’ revision. Although this problem can be solved with the good management of time. Yet, it still made negative impacts on some students. In fact, during the VA lesson, I didn’t pay attention too much as the knowledge was too narrow and it was boring even though it contain ed some history knowledge. Therefore, I suggest to add a new subject which also contain art elements and other new knowledge—humanities.

This subject is quite unfamiliar as Hong Kong has never put this subject into our normal schools. However, I think this subject is worth to learn than VA. For me, I love history very much. I like to discover the history knowledge in may spare time. Nevertheless, I think learning the knowledge in history textbook is not enough, humanities can solve this problem. It covers different aspects, like history, philosophy ,literature, anthropology and contain a bit art. Only through the topics, we can know that it is more interesting than learning VA . It can develop rational and critical thinking to different incidents, get rid of emotionally feeling for judging.

When we grow up , we can actually use these kind of knowledge and personality to contribute to society, instead learning some useless Visual Arts knowledge. Hence ,those are the reasons why I suggest to drop Visual Arts .

    • Personally, I hate studying VA too, but think about it: if the subject–Visual Arts is removed from the whole school curriculum , then that will be very unfair to students who are interested in studying VA. Some people hate studying the subject that you like–History, and they want the school to remove it, but the same thing applies here: this is not fair to people who like History.
In my opinion, instead of removing the subject–Visual Arts from the whole curriculum of the school, why not set the subjects to be elective (except for core subjects, eg. English, Chinese, Mathematics and LS)? People like studying VA but don’t like studying History can choose to study VA but not History, and vice versa, people like studying History but don’t like studying VA can choose to study History but not VA.
Instead of removing a subject from the whole school curriculum, I think letting students select subjects they are interested in will be fair for all students

  16. Reading through your comments there are mainly two kinds of subjects that you would want to get rid of: “useless” subjects (as in your comments, mostly RS and Visual ARRRRRRRRTS) or “redundant” subjects (as in your comments, mostly D AND T). But I would like to tell you a fun fact:

Things you learn in secondary school are useless. Literally, you won’t use them ever again in your entire life.

Let’s take mathematics as an example. Are addition, subtraction, multiplication and division useful? Yes, they are, but they are taught in primary school. Is algebra useful? Yes, if you are the kind of people who go to a supermarket, solve an algebra question to know the price of the goods, and then buy them.

One more example – English. Are relative clauses useful? Yes, they are. But is it useful to know that relative clauses are called relative clauses? No. Do you know how to use relative clauses naturally? [I assume] yes. So secondary school English lessons are useless. The same goes on to every, single, subject.

The horrendous problem about Hong Kong education is that it never cares about the students’ different level. As an example, in 2019-2020 2C (supposedly Maths class), there is a student who cannot calculate 7×8 (which, in his world, is 90% equal to 52, 5% equal to 54 and 5% equal to 56) reliably. Then he is asked to finish algebraic problems. The other few, however, are bored in Maths lessons, not because they hate Maths, but because they are too good at Maths that Maths lessons are useless. The remainder are students who chat on Maths lesson. Well, there are one or two (accurately only one) who teaches others so that they can keep track on what is happening, but he feels that Maths lesson is quite boring as well. As a result, Maths lessons are useless to all.

So this leaves the question. Which subject would you like to drop and what to add?

This is, however, surprisingly, a very simple question. It’s just which subject that YOU would like to drop, and what YOU would like to add. It’s subjective, and without reasons (as there are no reasons that actually make any subject more useful than others).

Let me finally answer the question. I would like to drop CTK’s Chinese History (aka recess lesson). That’s all. No reasons would be and could be provided after all.

    • i bag to differ
maths lesson are very not useless
you are suppose to do your english portfolio and chinese homework during maths lessons
or if you are Strawberry , you play games on your phone.
buy the way what are your thoughts on the latest minecraft pre-release which is pre-release 1 of minecraft 1.16?

  17. I think we should drop the lesson of Visual Art. I don’t think Visual Art is useful for our future unless we want to be an artist. If we want to be an artist in the future, we could choose it as an elective, just like choosing Design and Technology or Home Economics in F.3. We can choose between Music or Visual Art. Instead of Visual Arts, I would like to add a reading lesson. As reading can improve our English, like grammar and vocabulary. In addition, some fictions teach us a main theme or brings an important message. In conclusion, I would like to drop Visual Arts and add a reading lesson.

    • I agree your ideas too, since if we want to be the designer in the further, art is not really useful. I think adding a reading lesson is better since after listen to the classmates’ book sharing, we can know more about what the book is talking about, and we can have more choice on choosing buying which type of books. Good ideas, let us keep giving more ideas to the school

  18. If I can remove a subject, I want to remove Computer Lessons(CL). It is because we may not use the skills that taught in the lessons. So, I think it is not useful in our life. Therefore, I want to remove this subject.
I think student should be taught some subjects that can use in daily life. If you could develop a new course, I will develop astronomy. It is because I like watching stars and want to see the whole universe.

    • I think remove the computer lessons is not a great idea because of the technology of the world ,you will need use the computer in the fulture .You will need to learn some skills to use the computer. In addition, you can’t even live the fulture world if you don’t know how to use the computer.

    • I slightly disargee with your idea that Computer Literacy(CL) should be removed, mainly because of the rapid development in the aspects of technology and economic. Since the Industrial Revolution, human beings has invented a way to convert the chemical energy stored in fossil fuels or the thermal and kinetic energy stored in moving steam into electrical energy generated by the generator for the use of people effectively and so the living standard of common people has been skyrocketing after that and the advanced application even lead to the widespread of computer technology and they are now commonly being used by people, especially for the merchants and large-scale companies. If all of the schools removed CL from the curriculum, the understanding gained by the students in their daily life would be limited as well as their knowledge to work in most of the companies.

    • I am sorry that I do not agree with your idea. Nowadays, Computer Literacy is increasingly important in our daily lives as science and technology are in rapid development in the world around us. The level of mechanization and automation in industries is increasing unprecedentedly. In the near future, the popularization of AI will transform the modern world into a place where humans and AIs will live in harmony. We definitely have to learn more about CL and STEM to keep ourselves up with the trends.

  19. If I can cut a subject,I would like to cut VA,because even after learning VA,I think it is not useful in our lives, and I think that learning VA is a little bit boring.

If I want to add something,I want to add more Physical Education (PE) lessons, because I think that PE lessons can make our body stronger, and I think there are too few PE lessons,I want to add three more lessons ,in order to be healthier.

    • I agree with you. PE lessons can help us become healthier. It is because most of us, some of us maybe lazy, some of us maybe a lot of things need to do, do not have time to exercise. If PE lessons have more, then we can have more time to have exercise, that will make us more healthier.

  20. I think we should drop religious studies because i think it does not actually teach us any skills that would actually help us in exams. Plus, I think that the only people who are interested in religious stuff are the Christians in our school, which they already know a lot about the religion and bible from the church and they definitely do not benefit at all from RS. Finally, the general attitude towards RS among the students is just a subject that they do not care about at all, so that is why I think it should be dropped from the teaching curriculum.

    • Yes,I agree,Religious Studies is a quite boring subject, and I agree that Religious Studies is not really important subject because it is quite useless in our lives,so I think it is good to drop Religious Studies from the curriculum.

      • Let me just quickly correct some points:
        1. Religious Studies does not teach any skills that would actually help us in exams. Then according to your logic, RS exams at school and E&RE exams in DSE are not exams.
        2. The only people who are interested in religious stuff are not only the Christians in our school. You might (or might not) have heard about scientists who disbelieves in Jesus tried to disprove Jesus’ existence (which, well, Jesus’ existence is NEVER argued in today’s scientists / historians etc), and end up being a Christian. Thus this is a totally invalid point.
        3. Religious Studies are not useless in our lives. Well, it could be, if you do not actually listen to the RS lessons. Just like how you say that Maths is useless without even paying attention in Maths lesson.
        4. Extension from point 3: Technically secondary school studies are useless if you actually think about it. So you should not study in secondary school.

Then let me talk about why we should have RS. One reason will do:

This is a religious school. If you are studying in a Christian school, accept the fact that RS have to exist. If you don’t want to accept that, leave this school.

    • I also agree with your point of view. Religious Studies is not useful for us in daily life. Also, I am not a christian. I don’t interested in Religious Studies and I feel boring while I am studying Religious Studies.

    • I also agree with you.Because not everyone in studying here are Christians, and also not everyone here have religions. But we have to have RS lessons and exams just because there is such a subject.I think it isn’t good for students who have other religions so I think it would be better for us to choose whether we want to study RS.

  21. I think I would like to drop Visual Art the most. The subject is not very helpful in our daily life. Also, art is a hobby of people,I think is useless to treat it as a subject, the aim of using art to relax is disappeared.
The most subject I want to add is swimming lesson, though our school didn’t have a swimming pool, but there are public and YMCA pool, the school next to us also having swimming lesson, the swimming lesson can be held maybe once three to four cycle, this maybe let students know more about swimming, students will be more eager to have PE lesson too.

  22. I think we should drop Visual Art. Art is very subjective and not everyone like to appreciate art. Some people may think that art is boring and meaningless. In VA lesson, we mostly learn classical drawing skills. Are they really useful nowadays? Also, we waste a lot of time to do VA homework especially Culture Visit. It’s not a really important subject for normal student. It may be a selective subject in high-form for those people who what to be artist.
Moreover, I would like to add Spanish since it becomes one of the most famous language in the world. It may be useful for us for communication.

  23. I suggest to drop Design and Technology. It is because I think it is not necessary for teenagers to learn. I would like to add a lesson for watching English movie or film. It is because this lesson can let us relax ourselves. Also we can enhance our English knowledge. I think many students would like to have this lesson because they want to have some fun at school but not always study. Therefore I think we can drop Design and Technology and add a lesson of watching English movie.

  24. In my opinion,Chinese history is likely to be removed.Although it is one of the subject included in the curriculum of Hong Kong’s education,it is not really useful to the students. Why?I think the content of Chinese history which taught the historical changes which is not useful to our future job.Since the knowledge will not be used in our work.In addition,we should not waste time studying it.
So that I think Chinese history should be removed

  25. It is not quite suitable to say ‘to drop a subject’ as each subject has its own use. There are a few examples.

Many schoolmates want to drop E&RE lessons. In the opinion of some schoolmates, the E&RE exam added this year includes a large curriculum to study. They find it difficult to memorize the contents in Bible. It increases the pressure of them for revising. However, this subject has its own use. There are still many schoolmates who want to learn more about Jesus. If the whole subject is cut, it may disappoint some schoolmates. Therefore, the best way is actually cut the E&RE exam or the school should set a smaller curriculum and total marks for it.

On the other hand, someone thought that the subjects related to creativity like Visual Arts or Design and Technology are actually quite useless. You probably think: How can we use VA or D&T skills in our daily lives? These two subjects cannot help us to find jobs, right? However, some of them still find them interesting. The same problem, if the subjects are cut, it may disappoint them. Therefore, the school can probably combine them, or let them choose the subjects they want.

Moreover, the school can provide a few lessons for foreign languages, there are always many people who find them useful. These languages are actually more useful than those technical subjects as languages can help you communicate with others, while D&T can’t.

In conclusion, directly cutting a subject is not a wise solution to fulfill everyone’s need. Therefore, the school should think for other ways to reduce the pressure of Lamwooers.

  26. In my opinion, the school can cut the Chinese History lesson as it is not useful at all. Firstly, we will seldom talk about the history of China in our daily life. Second, we have the History lesson already, I think the Chinese history is already included in the history lesson, so it is duplicated. In addition, Studying Chinese history need to memorize a lot of details, it is very hard to do so. We need quite a lot of time as well. On the other hand, I think we can add a lesson which can do our self-revision, since most of the students do not have enough times on studying. While adding this lesson, they will have more time on revision and relax.

  27. I think we should probably cut D&T lesson because I think it is getting less practical as we don’t have a chance to do carpentry in our daily life. You may say ‘D&T teaches us how to use different kind of materials to make craft which we cannot try by ourselves.’ However, we cannot practice these techniques in our daily life. The skills we learnt in D&T lesson cannot be used frequently.
The lesson I want to add is a lesson learning foreign languages such as Spanish or German because nowadays knowing a foreign language is important to us as we are meeting people in different nations. Learning a new foreign language helps us to communicate with people in other countries more easily.

    • Yes I agree! We learn to do the things that we cannot do it by ourselves in daily life which required special tools and materials. It’s better to change it to some useful lesson which teach something we can use frequently in daily life. Learn new language is a great idea!

  28. I really think that our school should cut E&RE. It is because we didn’t have any exam for this subject last year, but we now have in all of a sudden. This exam is also not easy at all, with a large curriculum to study. I think our school is making a wrong step in this part. I hope that our school will really cancel out this subject.

    • I agree with you because I think E&RE lesson should not include exam because understand the Bibble in stead of only memorising them without thinking about the words from Bibble. Also, it increases our curriculum of exam which makes us more busy studying.

    • I totally agree with you because it makes students to have more revision and we have less resting time. Moreover, the purpose of adding exam was to make students know more about Jesus and lord. However students hate it more because we need revision and not interested in it.Therefore I think there is not not benefit for student but so many disadvantages.

  29. I think we should drop the E&RE .it is because we can go to church to learn it if you are an christian. If you are not a christian,it is a waste of time to study it. I rather have more time to have Chinese, English or Mathematics lessons. it is more important. If I can add a lesson, I will choose to have a relax lesson for us to away from the pressure of studies for a while. Relax can make our academic results better because it can reduce your pressure so that you can have a better result.

    • I agree with you that adding relax lesson for us to relax ourselves from having lots of homework, quiz and exam. However I think that we should keep the E&RE lessons because this can help students who are not Christian to learn from Jesus but I think our school shouldn’t add exam for E&RE because it will consume some time to do revision on it which is use to do revision on other subjects originally .

  30. I think we should drop language across curriculum because it is absolutely useless. maybe you will think that LAC is important as it helps you to study different subjects more easily. However, I do not think it helps me after I have finished the courses. the workbook has only a few information and they are common sense that everybody knows such as in Chinese and Chinese history lessons, we use Chinese. That is silly. It also drop my results as you have to finish some rubbish work and that is meaningless.I think we should drop this useless subject and use the time for us to study ourselves. that is even more helpful. in the LAC lessons, the students are not concentrate and they said they do not like the course too. therefore, I think we should definitely drop the LAC lessons.,

    • Actually the subject LAC will be cut after the first term of form one. Therefore, the question you are struggling with will not exist anymore after that. You need not to worry anymore after that.

  31. Merging Design & Technology and Visual Art is the most suitable way to improve the ciriculum.
These two subjects seems to have a overlap as it is just about Design & Art.
I think it is a good idea to bring back ‘Art & Design’, which is a subject which used to exist.
The lesson time of this subject can extend to three lesson, and students can learn more about anything about Art and Design.

  32. I think we should drop visual art because it cannot help us find our job . It is difficult to find at least you are very talented in this subject. Also , i think we should drop Maths because most type of Maths is not commonly use in the daily life. Besides , we should add some music lesson because our music teacher ms Lee said,”music can shown that music strengthens the heart and improves the recovery time of patients who were suffering from heart disease.” According to a research, listening to your favorite music releases endorphins in the brain that help to improve vascular health. It has been seen that both men and women who listened to music soon after cardiac surgery were much less anxious and even reported having less pain as opposed to those who rested quietly. Therefore, music have a lot of benefits. Last but not least, i think we should add resting lesson like Taiwan. Students are very exhausted after having lots of lessons. Therefore, a resting break can help them to improve memory and concentration. In conclusion, I think we should drop Visual Art and Math in order to add Music and resting break.

  34. In my opinion, every subject has its meaning to exist. Some can help us gain knowledge, some can train our critical thinking, while some technological subjects can enhance our problem-solving ability. However, the large number of subjects has been putting a tremendous burden on Lam Woo schoolmates. Many of us do not have enough time to tackle our daily schoolwork, especially at times when we are busy with extra-curricular activities, like Music Festival. So, how can we strike a balance between the number of subjects and students’ free time?

I suggest that students should only take one technical subjects (i.e. Music, Visual Arts, Home Economics, Design and Technology, Computer Literacy, etc.). Firstly, technical subjects are comparatively less important than academic subjects (i.e. Chinese English Mathematics, etc.). In fact, these subjects requires a large amount of time and effort. For instance, I spent hours on my Computer Literacy project as I am not talented at it. If I could drop this subject, I would have much more time for preparing for exams. Therefore, I think that dropping some technical subjects is a good idea to save time for more urgent and important things.

Secondly, different students have different abilities and interests. Some students may find it difficult in particular technical fields, while others find it interesting. Why not let students choose their most suitable technical subject? In this way, students can concentrate on one particular field and dig into it intensively. They may even have high accomplishments after a certain time of training. These are the reasons for allowing students to select one technical subject only.

I don’t think adding new subjects is a good idea, as it may put more pressure on our busy students. I suggest adding one self-study lesson per cycle, which allow students to do their own work or relax themselves. This can more time for students to finish their schoolwork, and thus reduce their academic pressure. Students can discuss with one another about academic issues as well, so as to let students learn from one another.

To conclude, I propose that students should select one technical subject only, while a self-study lesson should be added.

    • I agree with your suggestions. I also think that many students are very busy with their academic and extra-circular activities. Choosing one technical subjects is an good ideas as well, since everyone have different interests and it can save more time too.

  35. If we need to cut a lesson ,I would like to choose LAC . I think the lesson is quite boring because it just repeating what teacher said. We need to revise the vocabularies for dictation, I think the words are quite easy and these words are really easy but we have learnt that on the lesson.
I think we can add a lesson which teach us how take care of themselves because some of my classmates get a good result but they even cannot know how to open a pack of potato chips.

  36. I think we should cut the putonghua lessons, For some students, they have difficulty in remembering the symbol in putonghua .Moreover, it is not the main language for us .You can communicate with chinese even though you are not good at putonghua , they will also know what you are saying .I suggest we can add 2 more FTP lessons for class association or class teacher to deal with some trifles.Otherwise , there is not enough time for us to finish such servey . At the same time other classmates can do their own things such as homework and revision.

  37. I think music is less important nowadays, the school can cut some of the lessons. Also, the STEM model, which is more popular now, can replace Music. However, since some students are having a strong passion on music, it can be a choice for students. Or it can also be a special act. for senior students because it is more useful for them.

    • I agree that the STEM curriculum has become more and more important nowadays. The school should emphasize on science education more. However, I don’t think music is less significant. Music is a good way to express and share our feelings. It can help us relax from our busy school life. Also, many students in our school are engaged to music teams. The musical development of students may be hindered if music lessons are cut. Therefore, I don’t think that music lessons should be cut.

  38. I think we should have 2 PE lessons a cycle instead of 3, and add a self-study lesson as replacement. The aim of setting a PE lesson is to encourage students to have some exercise, however, 3 lessons is more than what it aims and students may feel exhausted after a bunch of lessons of a school day. Furthermore, most of the lamwoo students participate in posts( SU, house), ECA(s) (sport, music teams), and after returning home, tons of homework are waiting for us. We have a lot to do in a school day. Do we have enough energy to face the things we have to do? We do not.
Why do I suggest to add a self-study lesson as replacment? It’s because we often have some questions on different subjects. This lesson may provide a environment to tackle the academic matters. Also, we can have a little break as PE lesson is different from other subjects, PE lessons require you a lot of stamina. Besides, we can discuss on issues, which trains our speaking, critical thinking etc.
In conclusion, PE lessons can benefits us without hesistation, however, 3 lessons a cycle is a bit too many. Therefore, adding a self-study lesson is the best method to tackle the above problems.

    • I support your idea .I think 3 PE lessons maybe very tired to some of the students with illness or their body problems, but to some students who are good at PE , they want to have this extra lessons for F2.In my opinions , I think the teacher can let the students to choose whether they participate in the lessons or choose to rest in this extra lesson.

  39. I think we should drop a PE lesson as Form 2 have 3 lessons a cycle and add a self-study lesson as replacement. 2 PE lessons are definitely enough for students, moreover, the aim of setting a PE lessons is to encourage student to exercise,. Therefore, there’s no need to have 3 lessons a cycle. Also, lamwoo students have a lot to do, including homeworks,. sports teams, music teams etc. Students who participate in music teams often stay school till 7pm-8pm, if there are PE lessons on that day, students may feel exhausted.
Why do I suggest to add a self-study lesson as replacement of a PE lessons? It’s because after PE lessons, students often need some time to recover their stamina. Self-learning lesson can provide them time to recover their stamina, and when they fully recover, they can take out a textbook and revise . This self-study lesson also allow students to tackle their academic matters and discuss together on a issue. When students are having this lesson, the teacher won’t teach them anything, however, this may benefits to students’s learning progress.

    • wow so hard working huey 😎I think your idea is quite suitable and helpful for every students in Lam Woo. Actually I agree with you because I also didn’t have enough time to rest or have revision. Really appreciate your correct attitude towards studying! 😀

  40. I believe that everyone has his/her own favourite subjects and dislikes. And I would like to make the following amendments:
    1. To cut Home Economics and Design and Technology.
These 2 subjects are not the fundamentals of students and should be regarded as an elective, or an extra-curricular activity. It only provides entertainment to the students, but not letting them learn any knowledge required for the exam.
    2. To add Engineering:
It is because it is fun for some students and at the same time enhances the physics knowledge of the students. It can benefit students in the HKDSE exam.
    3. To add Language lessons:
For example, Japanese and French. It allows students to develop a third language for use when they travel overseas.

    • I think your idea is good. Since engineering is more important nowadays, it is better to add it into the lessons. However, some people may not like engineering, keeping home economics for them(especially girls) is better

    • A good suggestion but I have some opinion on #1 and #2.
I do not understand the reasons of cutting D&T and HE. The reasons is a little bit strange, I think providing entertainment is one of the reasons of adding these two subjects, and these two subjects do provide us knowledge. I do not think that we just learn new knowledge just to counter the exam.
Also, I do not understand why adding Engineering is good for students, especially the one who do not have big interest in Science. Integrated Science already provide basic Science knowledge (including Physics) that you need for first two year and this subject even divides into three subjects in Form 3.
Adding one more subject that is related to Science would make the students feel boring. And it would not benefit the students in the HKDSE exam that did not choose science – related subjects.

  41. I am happy to be asked what subjects I want to drop. Notice the s after ‘subject’. Yes, I want to drop more than one. I want to drop these subjects: Visual Arts, Home Economics and Design and Technology. These should be extracurricular activities we can choose to take part in, not compulsory subjects. As is, we already have too many subjects and we are all stressed out just trying to cope. I asked my parents and they said they did not have so many subjects. With the ever larger bodies of knowledge we have amassed as humanity progressed, we should be reducing the number of subjects, not adding more. If we do add some, they have to be relevant. I mean, if Visual Arts is compulsory, why not Computer Literacy? And yet, Computer Literacy is treated very much like a true optional subject (no exams) .

    • Most subjects are good for us and useful because they teach unique skills that help us in life. However, maths is not one of them. As a normal person, we use only basic maths in our daily lives. For instance, when we are shopping, we might need to use addition or even percentage, but I don’t think we’ll ever use algebraic fractions. Moreover, I think the syllabus for maths is too wide. There are too many topics and they are too challenging for students.
If I were able to introduce a new subject to the curriculum, it would be English literature. We can learn how to appreciate the beauty of the words just like appreciating ancient Chinese literature.it will be fun and meaningful

  42. I would like to cut LAC lesson. I always feel bored in the lesson.
I had done a presentation with my classmate. We fond that in 24 classmate.20 students choose boring! 3 students choose normal!1 student choose interesting !The funniest thing is the student who choose interesting just want to be different with the others! Therefore we can find out that LAC is boring.

It’s boring because we learnt the knowledge in primary school. And we learn it again now. This make us feel annoyed within the lesson.

I would like to add a lesson, which can give us some time to play games. That will relax all of us if we have this lesson.

  43. There are already a big variety for choosing in Lam woo.And most of them is important and interesting. But there is some similar subject can be dropped. For example, Visual art is one of it because it is similar to Design and technology, also in VA lesson the history it teach has already been taught in history lessons. And rest of the time is teaching drawing skills. So i think we can just combine the two subjects mentioned above. So we can learn similar things together and so we can learn much more quickly.
Secondly, I think included knitting in Home Economic lessons because it is very useful for us to repair clothes. Also, knitting is what makes Hong Kong great in the 70th years. So I think we need to learn it. And it is interesting too!

  44. There are a large variety of subjects in here but I’m my opinion, one of them are not really helping with my academic and is not worthy to spend time on it—LAC.
It is not helping us with any other subjects, yes, maybe you say that they could help you understand the words in different subjects but you can also do your own revision and check out whether you don’t understand anything, you can check hundreds of words on the Internet ,rather than learning five words you might know already.
Moreover, the exercises are extremely easy that you can do all of the questions in a few minutes. Lam Woo students need to have more time to finish their assignments rather than spending all the time on preparing presentations. I bet that everyone did their presentation during primary.
In my opinion, LAC is just a waste of time, making students more stressed and exhausted because of the extra homework from LAC. Therefore, I truly believe that LAC should be abolished.

  45. There are a large variety of subjects offered in Lam Woo. In order to let students learn more about the new curriculum for senior secondary, our school mainly provided art subjects ( History, Chinese History, Geography) and science subjects ( Physics, Chemistry, Biology)..
Firstly, I would like to cut physics. In form three, we are learning something entirely difficult and that the syllabus is not the same compared to other schools outside. I think I perform rather poor in this subject since my mathematics foundation is not very good indeed, honestly. This is my personal comment but for other students, I think they should like the subject very much !
Secondly, I would like to add English Literature. For our school, Chinese Literature is offered but there are no English Literature classes! I want to learn more about the ancient writers from the English History, for example, William Shakespeare. He has written many famous pieces, like the Romio and Juliet, The Tempest, Macbeth etc. I am also keen to learn more about the English style and it’s history.
Hope the school can offer this subject when I am in form four!

  46. At first, i think school can cut LAC. Last year when i was F.1, I study LAC this subject for half year (12 cycle). In this lesson, I learn some vocabs and also some learning skills for different subjects. But actually, i think they were not really useful for such subjects.
Also, I think most F.1 students can handle using English for teaching most subjects this problem. And learn to solve the problem by themselves. School can also help them to make some activities such as lunchtime program to help them know more about secondary school life.
I also want add a subject called self-learning. In this class, students can go around the school finding place for studying by themselves. Teacher can open some place for them such as, library, Gym, playground, computer room.
This subject can pratice for the self-discipline of students and also make them feel more relax and free for doing things they want.

  47. i think cut the VA and add one of the reading lesson because DT is similar to VA and nowaday many student do not have enouth reading because they only know to study and study.

  48. I agreed with the ideas of Mr.Yau and Mr.Pang that all subjects exist for a reason. In my opinion,I think that we are forced to study such many kinds of subject is due to the school want us to achieve all-rounded development in all aspects as we don’t have this chance in higher forms, which is the time when we are busy preparing for DSE.We also need a certain amount of knowledge for those “disgusting subjects” as reflected by most students like VA and Music.Although the teacher may not be the one you like,we can’t change this fact.We can only be concentrate on lessons to get the information we should know on that lesson such as the concept of Rococo art in VA lesson and the history of some famous musicians in music lesson. If not, when we grow up,we may not have the chance to learn these things, maybe because of the busy work of our job. Also,if your new friend talks about those things, you can call back your memory in junior forms although these may not be the subject you are strong at ,and so you can meet new friends by certain knowledge topics.
For a new subject,I think that we can have a lesson each cycle for self-learning English vocabularies as nowadays students face a problem with limited vocabulary. They got used to communicate with clangs which they cannot use them in writing.Their mind may be full of clangs and so they can’t think of much vocabulary to use. This lesson is self-paced,which means every student can learn according to their ability and won’t be restricted to follow the pace of the whole class.

  49. Every subjects exist for a purpose so I do not propose to cut some of the subjects. I think an alternative solution to reduce the unwillingness to attend certain classes is to make non-academic subjects selective to junior form students. Some more subjects could be added in order to enhance the knowledge of students towards different electives in senior forms, for example, Chinese Literature, English Literature. In form one and two, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Economics could also be added to the whole form or according to the ability of a certain class. Moreover, a self-study lesson could also be added so that students can study themselves through different resources and reduce their reliance on lessons, in which not everything could be covered due to the time limitation.

  50. I have no intention to drop a subject, as I think all of them existed for a reason. Even those like Music or Visual Arts, it’s quite interest-based, but I still consider it having a certain meaning to us students.
However, it would be good if I can add one class to the current system. I personally is more interested in science and IT, so a class which could combine these two great aspects may be my most important wish.
I’ve seen universities opening and promoting the Science and technology class or subject, so I think secondary schools may take it as a reference. As we all know, the power of computer and coding is great today. All scientific researches and investigations could not be conducted so well without the help of computer modeling. Therefore, I am very confident to say that the technological boom in the past few decades is mainly due to the existence of computers, and its powerful calculating ability to generate results. This contributes to the fast accomplishments of the science and technology field. And the achievements in science and technology aspects lead to the improvements in computer industries, such as the expanding memories, faster function speed, etc. I heard that quantum computers are in its process now, which would lead to another leap of our technology way.
Therefore, I am confident that we, students living in the Information Era, should be equipped to meet the challenges in the Information Technology field, and thus contribute to it in the future.

  51. There are many different subjects in Lamwoo.Teachers set up each subject for different reason. So I think dropping subjects may not be a good idea. But if people ask me to choose one or two subjects that I really want to drop,I will choose to drop LAC.I choose to drop LAC because it is less meaningful.LAC is a subject for F.1 students to adapt English leaning but I think it is not necessary. They are lessons learning about the knowledge of different subjects including Integrated Science,Geography,History,Liberal Studies, etc. But actually we already have those subjects in our school.LAC is just repeating the things we learnt in other subjects. Also, there are many unnecessary dictations in LAC too.Teachers compound the words from different subjects together and give us dictations. This doesn’t help us to remember the words. Some students even mix up the words. There is also a project for us to do in LAC but I don’t think this helps us to improve our speaking and presentation skills.Because we have already done some projects that are much harder in our primary schools. This is only a time consuming task for us.
I think the school should change LAC lessons into English speaking lessons that teachers do speaking activities with students.Because students in Hong Kong nowadays have poor speaking skills.I think these kinds of lessons really can improve our speaking skills.
Therefore,I think the best subject to drop is LAC and to add English speaking lessons.

  52. I think we should drop LAC lessons because this lesson is boring.I actually cannot learn anything from it.This is just a waste of time!LAC lesson is just the things that we learn in Intergrated Science,Geography,History, etc. Also, the LAC dictation is totally rubbish because the words are quite easy.I do not know why the school create LAC lessons for students.
I think that we should add some free-time lessons for us.We can do anything in that lesson such as self-study,sleeping,having PE,etc. Therefore, students in Lam Woo can enjoy these lessons instead of LAC lessons!

  53. I think we should drop LAC lessons. It is because actually we can learn all the stuffs of LAC in the other lessons.I think LAC lessons are just a kind of revision lessons. However,we can also revise those things by ourselves. And also LAC doesn’t involve all the other subjects,it just involve a few subjects only.So I think LAC is not so useful for us.It is just wasting our time.I had heard some students said that LAC is the most boring lessons I ever had.And I’m quite agree with that.

Instead ,I think we can add more CL lessons because we just have our CL lessons in the cycle 14-26.It is not enough for us to learn the knowledge of IT.Also,as the rapid development of information technology,we need to broaden our IT horizon and knowledge. So that we can catch on the rapid development of IT.

  54. There are quite a lot of subjects we need to study in Lamwoo. I think we should drop Language Across the Curriculum (LAC), which is a subject only for Form 1 students. Its original aim is for helping us to have a better understanding of different subjects and the answering skills in the exams. Maybe it can really help some of the students, but I don’t think the effect is so significant. It is useless and time-consuming for most of the students. Also, the dictations provided are always repeated with the original subjects. Therefore, we have to revise the same words again and it would increase our pressure. Moreover, the teacher do not talk about everything in the cross book. It is a waste of paper and the ink actually.

On the other hand, I would like to add a Free-time PE lesson. It is a lesson for us to play any sports we like (unless there are no such equipment at school ) and do exercises with our friends. As you know, students do not have enough time to do exercises nowadays. They are always busy with their homework and ECA. They even don’t have enough time to play as well. I think this lesson is a good chance for us to keep the habit of playing sports.

As a conclusion, I would like to drop LAC and add Free-time PE lesson.

  55. I think that the most subject that i want to cut most is LAC.I want to cut it because i think it is no meaning for studying this subject. We study the words some subject, the teacher said that it will help a lot when we study this things. But actually when i study those subjects and words,i don’t really think that it helps lo.And sometimes the teacher don’t really pronounce the words correctly. And it make me feel confused when i heard my subject teacher pronounce the words with the LAC teacher differently.
Next ,i want to add a lessons called ‘self study’,i think it is meaningful because it can let students study and learn by themselves. It can train their self-discipline to learn. They can read books, study or do their homework. If the school add such this lessons,The students will be happy with that to have their freedom to learn by themselves.
Second,i hope the school add some different languages class, because some of the students may like to learn some different languages for interest .
To conclude,i world like to cut the LAC lessons and add self study lessons and different languages class.

  56. I think the subject LAC should be cut. most of the things that the teacher told us were already taught in other subjects, if not already taught in Primary School. The course book is always about either very basic knowledge or just things we won’t learn. Moreover, the teacher doesn’t even use the course book during the lesson, and 80% of the lesson time is just doing the dictation, which is also pretty useless. Also, the majority of the lessons is about the project, and I don’t see how does it help F1 students.
I think the LAC lessons from cycle 2 to 13 should be replaced by CL. CL is more useful than LAC in every way, and there are very few lessons.

  57. Amount all the subjects , I think LAC is the most meaningless. The things that we learn in LAC is just repeating the things we are leaning in other subjects , doing reflection ,making a word record and exam skills . This is all some thing that we can learn by ourselves! I think this subject can combined with the English Portfolio because the things that we learn is similar to what we learn in English .Also , I think VA is just for interest . I think VA can be a ECA because it is really bored for someone who don’have any interest in art .Also, “art appreciation “is really time-consuming .Although we can’t learn about those famous artist , but teachers can still introduce them to the students by introducing the books about art .

The lessons I hope the school will add is Spanish .It’s more easier to find teachers to teach Spanish now , and it is a common langue in Europe . It’s more easier for us to communicate with foreigner .
After all,I think learning one more kind of langue must be more useful than VA and LAC .

  58. I think we should drop the LAC lessons, because the things that we learn is actually the same thing as what we learn in English, History etc. The original aim of LAC is to try to help F1 students to adapt secondary school life, but actually there is no obvious help for students and almost every lesson is repeating the same thing. The main problem is that they teach the thing that we learned in other lessons. To be honest, I think that the LAC lessons are extremely boring and is wasting time.
I think that we can add two more LS lessons, because I think LS lessons is not enough in F1, we can learn about different areas of knowledge.

  59. I would like to drop VA lessons and add a foreign language class.👏 Language is also a kind of art. Although the artworks will develop our creativity, it is extremly time-consuming, especially on ‘art appreciation’. 😵Learning foreign language can help us to communicate with the people around the world more easier. Through learning different languages, we can learn more about the culture of different countries too.✈
For the conclusion, I think VA should be dropped and foreign language class should be added.😂

  60. I think the subject hat should be removed is the subject that creates the most fear – Music. Many people is feared to meet Ms. Lee or even go to the Music Room. Students could use that spare study time.
The Subject that should be added is a Self-Study Lesson. Students can do homework or Other things they like to release the tension and stress of learning as too much can be a burden.

  61. Actually,I don’t think removing any of the subjects is an good idea because the school must has its own reason to keep each subjects.Although there maybe really too much subjects to study, our elder schoolmates experience that too so I think it is a kind of honed and to prepare for our life. When we work in society, there must be more and more things to do and study harder now and train us to work under the pressure. But if you really ask me for a subject that I want to drop, that must be design and technology. For my opinion,I think that this subject is quite similar to visual arts that also teach us how to design and present a masterpiece. If ones is not interested in being a architecture or designer, etc. some days,it will be a waste of the double lessons. So that I suggest to use these two lessons to teach students other subjects for example, other languages to improve students knowledge. We can even use this hour to let the students do their own things for examle homework because many students nowadays always complain about not having enough time to finish the homework.

  62. There are too many subjects for stident nowadays. Not every subject is important for stidents at all. Some of the subjects waste the time for the students to learn more different things .
If I can choose a subject to drop, i would drop reading lesson. 🌟🌟
First, I think we can use our spare time to read and learn more that cannot learn in the lessons. I think it is wasting time to add a reading lesson.
Second, there are some student hate reading but they learn through other channels. Reading lesson may waste their time since they do not read in lesson. 🙈
Thirdly, I think we can use the reading lesson to add one more lesson, especially the lesson that most of the students love. So that , we can have more time for lesson.✨
Last but not least , I found that the teacher and the students in reading lesson are always tired and want to fall asleep.😴💤💤 Maybe the reading lesson are too boring and the students are not interested in reading at all.
Therefore, the best choice of subject to drop is reading lesson .🙋😂😂

  63. If I can drop a subject, I would like to drop Visual Art. Although visual art seems can train and improve our sense of creativity and imagination, some students may not be interested in these activities(doing art work).I am one of the student who have a very low sense in art. During the visual art lesson, I think it is boring. If other students are interested in art, they will do art works in their leisure time when they like to do so. Also, doing art work is time-consuming. Many students need to spend much time in doing art work as teacher required them to submit their art work as an assignment. They can’t refuse to do art work. However, some students are not good at art, they need to spend more time than others in doing their work. Moreover, in Lam Woo, we need to do art appreciation and cultural visit, so that students need to spend more time for outdoor visit and group discussion. As a result, they have less time to do other things they like.
If I can add a subject, I would like to add an “English Drama” subject. Drama needs a big cooperation between actors, actors also need to have a fluent and expressive speech. So that students can improve their English speaking skills in a funny way. When students need to use English to talk to others, they will have a better self-confidence in speaking to others in English and clearly convey messages.

  64. In fact, students in Lam Woo have to study so many subjects. I think it’s worthless to add even more. Students will be in pressure and they will get stressed. As I said that students have to study so many subjects, I think we should drop one or two. If I have a chance to do it, I would like to drop LAC (Language Across the Curricular). Although it is just for form one students to adapt to the secondary school life and the teaching method, I think it is useless and it can’t really help us a lot. The knowledge that the teacher teaches us in LAC is the same with what we learn in the other subjects. It is useless to teach us the same thing for two times. The words in the dictation are the words that we’ve learned in different subjects. I think it is better for our subject teachers to do the dictation with us, or else we may easily mix up the words with the other subjects. For the presentation that we have to do in the last few lessons, I think it is wasting our time. The presentation aims to help us with our presentation skills. However, we have to do presentations in primary school so we may already know the skills. It’s not meaningful in doing this. All in all, I think this subject cannot help us a lot so I want to drop LAC.

  65. In fact, dropping subject are not good to us but still I would like to drop Language Across the Curriculum(LAC) this subject if we can choose because this subject is aim to help the form 1 student to adapt from primary school to secondary school. However it only contain dictation and revision again about the contents we have already studied. The presentation skills it taught is good, but adding one more presentation to us will increase our stress. The LAC lessons time is using our computer lessons time, Having a same lesson right through a year is better. So i would like to drop LAC.
I would like to add English Literature this subject after form 3. We only have Chinese Literate this subject can be chosen after form 3.I want to add English Literature so that we can learn more English writing skills and cultural of different foreign countries. English is now an international language so we should learn more about it. Also provide more subjects for our students to select can widen their eyesight. In conclusion, I would like to drop LAC and add English Literature.

  66. If i have a chance to drop a subject, i would drop visual art. It’s because we have to prepare a lot of tools for the lesson. And the content of the lesson os similar to the Design and Technology lesson. And the lesson os a bit boring. Although i like making crafts, i can learn it by myself or at the D&T lesson.

Instead, i would like to add a kind of language learning, such as French. I have learnt it for two years and i think it is quite fun to understand the meaning of the word of others country. Since i have learnt French, i can know more about France too. Moreover,we can communicate with other in French too.

Too make a decision, i would like to learn another language rather than Visual Art.

  67. I would like to drop Language Across the Curriculum(LAC) because this subject is only full of dictations of the vocabulary from IS, Geography, History and Liberal Studies. The vocabulary is taught by these four subjects’ teachers in these four subjects’ lessons. I think we can spell these words correctly if we pay attention in these four subjects’ lessons. We have a lot homework to do in a night and we have a lot of quizzes so that we should study hard. We have Chinese and English dictations to finish so that we don’t want to get more dictation each cycle. We may not sleep before 12:00 at midnight if LAC dictation are still here because we should study hard or we will need to copy 20 words times 10 times in one day two days later. If LAC is cancelled, I would use this two lessons to get back for the computer lesson because computer is important in today’s life. We should learn it to make our life better. However, now the first 13 cycles are for LAC. We can’t get better in all subjects within Computer subject in the first 13 cycles until February.

  68. I think we should drop the Language Across the Curriculum(LAC).I want to drop it because this subject is only doing revisions on some of the subjects. I think the revision is nearly useless because it can’t teach me any extra things and we will do our own revisions everyday at home. Even though it also have some exercises about subjects but they are easier than the class/homework of the subjects.
I think we shall drop the LAC and add one more lesson for Form Teacher Period and form teachers can have more time to solve problems in the class.

  69. I dont think removing subject is a good idea because every subject are useful.but i think Language Across the Curriculum(LAC)is really boring and useless. It just do some revision across all subjects and do some exercises.Actually i think the exercises are really easy because it is easier than other subjects’ classworks or homeworks.
I think my school should add Language lesson.Like teaching French or Spanish.Because every language have their own actractive.I want to learn Japanese and Korean.Although I learn by myself at home but I still want some professional teacher to teach me.And tell us the background of these language.

  70. I have no idea of removing subjects from the curriculum right at this moment because every subject is useful. However, I’d like to put forward a suggestion on the additional lesson.
I think Lam Woo should add a subject of foreign language. Globalization gives us variety of opportunities to get in touch with people from other countries. Learning foreign language, especially the globalized language, could help establishing a better communication with foreigners. Though learning languages, we can understand the culture of that country too, which can increase our awareness of the world. Besides, it is known that more and more students study foreign language at universities. Therefore, learning foreign language at secondary school is a good idea for hose students.
The school should provide several choices for us such as French, German, Spanish and Japanese. However, foreign languages should not be tested in the exams as to avoid heavy burden and stress of students.

  71. There are lots of subjects in our school, although the works are heavy, I think all of them are useful and necessary. However, I have some suggestions about adding some lessons.

I suggest that to add Chinese and English Literature. Chinese and English are languages we always use and there are lots of books written in these two languages. So, I think teachers could introduce some classic novels of Chinese and English to us and analyze the background and things we learn from it or what author is trying to tell us through the book. Students can do book reports and analysis of different books they like and these subjects can enhance our interest of reading and improve our analysis skills of things. It can also help us to understand more about the history, different culture and our society.

Second, our school can add some lecture and presentation skills lesson in order to enhance our confident and speaking skills. It is really important because we always have to speak and present our ideas in our life and these lessons can help us to organize our ideas and express it to people clearly and fluently. Teachers can show videos of great talks, also some tips to make our presentation more perfect. With these lessons, if we want to talk about our ideas in our daily life or in the future, we can group our thoughts clearly and make a better presentation.

All in all, I think our school can add Chinese and English Literature and Lecture lessons.

  72. If I could drop a subject and add a new one, I would like to drop VA lessons and add a “Self-study” lesson. You may say, “Through the artworks created in the VA lessons, students can train their creativity and also, they can earn the sense of accomplishment.” However, during VA lessons, we have a lot of homework and “Art appreciation” to do, and it creates more burden and makes our workload even more heavier. We already have a lot of homework every day, and we are under a lot of pressure, if we still have to do a lot of researches and create artworks, it would only add more work, and put us under more pressure.
I think that VA is not that important, compared to subjects like Chinese, English, Maths, Liberal Studies, or even Geography and History. I think that those subjects would be more useful to us in our daily life, compared with VA. During self-study lessons, students can do their own homework, or even revise what they’ve learnt, in order to cope with tests, quizzes, dictations and even examinations.
Since homework, tests, dictations and examinations already put students in a large amount of pressure, self-study lessons can help them cope with all the academic things, and they won’t have to worry about lacking time to finish their work, which would make them less stressful. Also, most of the students in Lam Woo have a lot of extra-curricular activities after school, ranging from music activities like choir and orchestra to sports activities such as badminton and volleyball, they would have less time to finish their homework and study. A self study lesson would be very useful, as students can finish their homework and revise in that lesson, and don’t have to worry about lacking time to finish their work. I think that a self-study lesson could help students reduce their pressure and stress, which would help them mentally and physically. That’s because too much stress and pressure is very unhealthy to us, not only mentally but also physically. Therefore, I think that a self-study would be really useful.
I think that adding a lesson which would help students less stressful is better than adding a VA lesson that would put most students under more pressure.
To conclude, I would choose to drop VA and add a “self-study” lesson.

    • I don’t think VA is less important comparatively. In VA, we can learn the history of arts, e.g. Baroque etc. Through the art work , we can understand the living environment and condition of the artist, this is an another way to learn history in my point of view. Moreover, VA’s art appreciation doesn’t spend you a lot of time, as you just pick one of your art work out and present it out.
Therefore, I don’t think dropping VA lessons is a good choice.

  73. Iwould like to drop the lesson of Visual arts since the VA need to prepare the lessons .If not ,we may did not know what the teacher talking about in the lessons.usually we did not have more time after we finish our homework .And we need to study others subject .i want to add more one or two reading lessons. We can to enjoy books in the natural life .We can know more about different  things in our lives .It can let us know more words and write more skill from the novel too..

    • I would like to drop Home Economics since nowadays people seldom eat at home. They usually eat outside in the restaurants. Therefore, we won’t need to learn how to cook. Also, the internet nowadays is very convinent and we may search for the recipe very quickly if we want to learn how to cook. We may drop this subject and change to reading lessons because we may have many homework and tests in secondary school. We may use this chance to read more books and relex our body and brain. Also, reading can improve our creativity and can let us learn more vocabulay.

  74. The school has been operated for 45 years. As time passed, improvements have to be made. In terms of subjects, I have the following suggestions:

Students at secondary school are assumed to have basic self-care ability. However, in recent years Kong Kid phenomenon is getting more common and I found that some of our schoolmates are lacking of self-care ability. Once, I saw a F1 boy asking others to help him tie his shoelace, which totally shocked me. Not just in Lam Woo but also around Hong Kong, kids nowadays are much more rely on their parents. Primary children do not know how to bath themselves; secondary students do not know how to cook instant noodles; even university graduates need their parents to accompany them to attend job interviews. This is probably caused by parents’ over protection and lack of opportunities to learn basic life or social skills. Therefore, I believe the school should help take up the role to teach them with self-care ability. There is a necessity of adding self-care skills in f1 normal lessons (perhaps in home economic lessons).

Besides adding self-care skills in our lessons, I would suggest adding a subject of foreign language. Many other schools in Hong Kong also have extra foreign language for their students, especially for those high achievers. Most students in Lam Woo are diligent and I think they have the ability to learn another new language. The school can offer a few choices of languages such as Japanese, Spanish and French etc. for students. However, this extra subject should have no examination to avoid adding burden to the students. Although the school has already provided a few foreign language classes as an extra-curricular activities, changing it as a subject can promote foreign languages to Lam Woo’s students. It is useful to them as they may work aboard or get in touch with foreigners in the future.

All in all, to flourishing students’ school life, the school should add self-care skills teaching in F.1 home-economic lessons and foreign language as an extra subject.

  75. I would like to drop Visual Arts(VA) because I think VA is not important by comparing with other subjects. Although we can be more creative by learning VA, we can still learn it by ourselves. Also, the subjects that we need to learn is increasing. We have not much time to divide by so many things such as extra curricular activities.
Next, I want to add a lesson that is called ‘home repair’. It is beacuse when we grow up, we may not live with our parents in the same house. We need to do everything by ourselves, can’t depend on our parents anymore. Moreover, we can help our parents when they have some problems in our home to reduce their burden. I think this new subject (home repair) is more functional than VA!

  76. I think that we should drop the lesson of Visual Art(VA). Although you may think that it is a lesson which can express your creativity and to relax yourself, things are not as easy as you think. Our teacher teach us how to draw good works, learning how to appreciate arts and also different visual elements or visual principle. I am not good at drawing and our teacher always ask us to answer difficult questions. If the Va lesson is dropped, I would like to add one more PE lesson. It is because we can train ourselves more healthy. I think that healthy is the most important in all of the category so that we may have less illness.

  77. I think we should drop Design and Technology and add a reading lesson. It is because D&T is similar with Visual Art, they are both doing art works. Therefore, I think it is not a must to have two separate subjects. The reason of adding reading lesson is reading books has many benefit. First, we can learn more vocabulary and many writing skill from the novel. Second, we can also learn a lot of extra knowledge which we can learn in the text books, such as science, history and cookery. I think we should have at least twice reading lesson a cycle. To conclude, I would like to drop Design and Technology and add a reading lesson.

    • I disagree with you. firstly, D&T is not simlar to VA, one is building, fixing or designing daily appliances, one is just drawing. Secondly, adding reading lessons is not nessecary, you can always read a book at your free time and it doesnt require a teacher to read so why do you need to spend precious lesson time on reading? Lastly, D&T is actually very useful, u will figure that out when you bought furnitures form IKEA, or when you are fixing your old furnitures. Therefore I don’t think it is a good idea to cut D&T to add reading lessons
